Product Description

DO YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO WHAT YOU DO BEST EVERY DAY?

Chances are, you don't. All too often, our natural talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths.

To help people uncover their talents, Gallup introduced the first version of its online assessment, StrengthsFinder, in the 2001 management book Now, Discover Your Strengths. The book spent more than five years on the bestseller lists and ignited a global conversation, while StrengthsFinder helped millions to discover their top five talents.

In its latest national bestseller, StrengthsFinder 2.0, Gallup unveils the new and improved version of its popular assessment, language of 34 themes, and much more (see below for details). While you can read this book in one sitting, you'll use it as a reference for decades.

Loaded with hundreds of strategies for applying your strengths, this new book and accompanying website will change the way you look at yourself -- and the world around you -- forever.

AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY IN THE NEW & UPGRADED EDITION OF STRENGTHSFINDER 2.0
(using the unique access code included with each book)

* A new and upgraded edition of the StrengthsFinder assessment

* A personalized Strengths Discovery and Action-Planning Guide for applying your strengths in the next week, month, and year

* A more customized version of your top five theme report

* 50 Ideas for Action (10 strategies for building on each of your top five themes)

* The more user-friendly StrengthsFinder 2.0 companion website, with a strengths community area, library of downloadable discussion guides and activities, a strengths screensaver, and a program for creating display cards of your top five themes

5 out of 5 stars Strengths Finder 2.0   January 6, 2009
My husband and son work for the same company and had done the earlier version through work. I thought it would be good to evaluate my strengths. I liked the on-line assessment which comes with this book. Drawback is that everyone using the book must by their own copy to do the assessment. This version is concise and hits things right on. As a matter of interest, I tried to determine which were my five strengths according to description before taking the online tool. I was right on just two of the five. I bought a copy for each of the rest of my adult children to do their own assessment.

2 out of 5 stars Liked the info in the book...nice assessment...but...   January 4, 2009
...there should be a way to purchase additional assessments online without buying another copy of the book. My wife and I don't need two copies. Better yet...all of the information from the book could be better organized online for a fee. In an age where most people are trying to become more "green", I am surprised that the exclusive online format did not get more consideration from Gallup or the author...

It is also worth pointing out that the book is worthless on the secondary market and there is no use checking this type of book out of the library.

2 out of 5 stars Strenghts Finder 2.0   January 2, 2009
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Light reading, possible to finish in one stretched sitting. It does not offer any surprizes, or anything knew. It is more of a summary of strengths list, may be a good way to find out if any of yours made the list. If you can -> borrow a friend's or library copy.

I found the classification interesting. In "Working with Others who have "NameofStrength" sections, depending on the strength type - the author addressed his comments as "she or he" not both. Here are some examples: Achiever was mentioned as "he", activator was mentioned as "she", Adaptibility was "he", Analytical was "she", Arranger was "he", Belief was "her", Command was "he", Focus was "he", and so on..

See if you agree with the classifications.

5 out of 5 stars Tool for understanding self and others   December 24, 2008
Strenghts Finder 2.0 revealed strenghts I was unaware of, gave me a new appreciation for a quality which I had previously seen as a weakness. It may change how we perceive ourselves and express our strenghts. It is valuable for those who seek growth, and gives tools to assist in strength development. It may be valuable in increased understanding rin elationships as insight is gained and new perspectives taken. Valuable sections that are important in the work place give suggestions on what strenghts to team with to maximize your natural characteristics.

2 out of 5 stars Save your money - try a Myers Briggs assessment first!   December 21, 2008

I feel cheated having just finished the book and its online test. The book contains approximately 30 small pages of widely spaced text explaining the premise behind building upon one's strengths. The rest of the book is devoted to explaining the 34 different "themes" or strengths. These descriptions are only somewhat useful since most of the explanations are pretty much what you would expect based on the title of each theme. They also include examples of what types of people share each theme. The most useful part of the descriptions may be the couple of bullet points that provide helpful methods of dealing with people that fall under each theme. This is somewhat flawed though because it stands to reason that if you're talented enough at gauging people to be able to determine what their characteristics are you ought to be talented enough to know how to engage them. That said, there were a handful of pointers that I found useful.

I suspect that what you're really paying for with this book is the online test, which is really nothing more than a Myers Briggs assessment with some quick computer scripting to provide you some "personalized" suggestions and results. The test consists of 177 pairs of descriptors of which you are asked to select one from each pair which either strongly or somewhat describes you. Frustratingly, many of the pairs are not mutually exclusive in any way so you may have a very difficult time deciding which answer to select. I feel that in order to really make use of the test you probably have to know yourself quite well, in which case the book and the test will be of little value to you. I recommend anyone who is considering purchasing this book to first have a look at the variety of freely available Myers Briggs assessments online. They provide a very similar self assessment and often include the same detailed and personalized advice to complement the test.
