Very impressiveJanuary 6, 2009 I found the msi wind to be a very well-made product. It has everything you want from a netbook. The screen is very clear and the keyboard is larger than what i've seen on acer and asus netbooks. The six-cell battery also helps a lot, although it does make the unit a bit bulkier tha some other netbooks. It is still very portable though and very sleakly designed.
I have no complaints with the product and i can see why it was rated as Wired magazines top gadget of 2008.

Finally, there is a real computer that you will actually WANT to take with you! With a big hard drive, 1 gig of RAM, wireless, bluetooth, and webcam, the Wind has a more powerful combination of features than most competing netbooks. The 10 inch screen lets you see the entire width of a web page without scrolling left to right. It is big and bright enough that "mature" users can see it. There is a built in magnifier if you need extra help. The keyboard is big enough that you can type comfortably, even if you have big hands. Spend the extra money and get the 6-cell battery. The bigger battery sticks out a little from the bottom of the unit, which tilts the screen slightly, improving the viewing angle. The Wind is light and really does easily fit into a backpack, briefcase, or even a large coat pocket. I take it to work even on the days I ride my bike. Although though the Wind is not the most powerful computer on the market, we have run Excel macros, VBA, Quickbooks, etc. with no problem. We have also had no problems connecting printers, routers, external hard drives, optical drives, etc. This computer is an EXCELLENT VALUE and an excellent secondary computer. Your friends who spent big bucks on the Sony UX, OQO, or other UMPCs will be so jealous!
Amazon's 15% restocking fee: $65. don't buy electronic stuffs at Amazon!January 3, 2009 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
DON'T BUY IT AT AMAZON. Amazon not only charge me $8 shipping cost for returning, but also CHARGE ME $65.50 RESTOCKING FEE(15% from original price) despite the fact that the computer is totally in the original condition. $65 IS A LOT OF MONEY. I didn't know it otherwise I would never bought it at Amazon. As far as I know, other online computer sellers would not charge you such a high restocking fee. I bought a laptop at a local Staples, they accepted the computer and refunded me full money for a computer of the same price. I would never buy any electronic at Amazon again.
Nice, but!January 2, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Nice netbook, but with problems. Keyboard is OK, nice screen, draft N wi-fi, 6 cell battery is nice, generous HDD, bluetooth. 6 cell battery is too heavy, makes computer fall backwards if not careful. Speakers are terrible. They are almost inaudible even while cranked up. Returned!
Fantastic Netbook...100% recommended!January 2, 2009 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I spent MONTHS researching for a netbook. I currently own a Lenovo X61t which is very portable and lightweight, but I wanted to have something I could grab fast in the AM and use just for the day. In order to get the battery life of my new MSI Wind on my x61t, I'd have to carry BOTH the 8 cell and extended battery which really is a pain in the butt.
I used a list that I compiled over the last 3 months of reviews from all the major websites (CNET, Laptopmag, etc) and after looking at all the reviews there and from sites like Amazon, I decided to go with the MSI Wind.
That was NOT easy as I tested the HP mini at Best Buy. The problem was, for all the looks of the mini, it does the same as the Wind at about $150 less the cost. Add to that I actually think the Wind looks BETTER and feels better and this machine is a winner.
I'm not sure why some have had issues with the wireless connection because mine as run fantastically with ZERO issues, as has the BT.
I'm getting about 4 hours of battery life running wireless and BT as well as running other programs. For an intensive use, it gets great battery life. I recently experimented with the lower power settings and was able to squeeze almost 5 hours out of the battery with a little to spare.
I downloaded OpenOffice software but also use the 60 day Microsoft Office trial, using Outlook, Word, Excel, and PPT with no glitches and no slow down in operation. The SD card works fine (I bought the 4 GB version) and I also have the Seagate Go HD that I carry all the time.
Furthermore I upgraded to another 1GB of memory which was extremely easy.
I am 100% satisfied with this little machine and would recommend it to anyone. I am an every day power user and while my x61t will in fact be my main machine for longer trips that I take, this will be used for my daily one day trips or times I need to take it with me for a few hours of work.
One final note. I had read that some wanted to upgrade to BIOS 1.09. This machine comes with the new BIOS so you can overclock it up to 24% with no need to do the Flash upgrade and risk having an issue.
WORTH THE $430!!
