5 out of 5 stars Great "little" unit.   January 8, 2009
This worked right out of the box for me. 7 ports and enough expansion for me. I use the power adapter, and can charge my phone and ipod, plus use my USB powered WD passport hard drive. I like this a lot.

3 out of 5 stars It is an ok product   January 3, 2009

This is an ok generic USB hub. The pictures are slightly deceiving as shown on Amazon. The whole USB top part rests on a king of metal rail system. It can easily slide in and out. Not an issue or does not compromise functionality.

The unit is light weight and was easily detected by my PC. No drivers required for installation. In the package (as it was mailed to me) there were no instructions. So for the non techie person, it may be a challenge. The upstream port is a mini-USB port. All others are standard USB receptacles. There is a blue light that stays ON all the time...kind of nagging, but I guess every device these days comes with a bright light of some sort...welcome LED illumination!!

In short, I am happy with it. If you are looking to extend your USB reach, this is a more economical solution. You can connect standard length cables to the unit from your peripheral and then connect the hub to the PC to increase effective length. Eg: if your printer is far from your CPU you can connect it through the hub. If you were to buy an extended USB cable, it can be quite pricy and you will NOT get the additional ports.

Happy with the product and the service...

2 out of 5 stars Lasted less than six months   December 30, 2008

The initial install experience was good, and I like the form factor.

Unfortunately, after less than six months, devices plugged into the hub began behaving erratically. Mouse pointers would jump all over the screen, my SmartPhone couldn't get a consistent connection to synch, etc. The same devices plugged straight into a USB port on the computer worked fine, so it was definitely the hub that went bad. It had the same power source as everything else, so it's unlikely that there was an external cause such as a power surge.

I'm now shopping for another hub, and I won't be getting another one of these.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!   December 29, 2008

The only problem that I found out after buying it is that I didn't know how to find out what kind of hubs I had on my computer,so I thought that it was going to work as a 2.0 hub but no since the computer only have 1.1 hub it's just working as a 1.1 hub but that was just my mistake, don't let this happens to you ! So I give it a five star because it is working fine !

This is a heavy, stable product that keeps its position on your desk. The connections are solid and reliable. If you haven't bought a USB hub before, look around the web. Many are inadequate, I'm not sure why. So this one is worth the money.
