Product Description The Wave music system reproduces one-half octave lower musical notes and delivers even greater clarity and definition than the original Wave radio/CD. With its deeper tones and even more lifelike sound, you might just feel like you're sitting in the front row. Inside, our new proprietary waveguide speaker technology combines with other Bose technologies to deliver enhanced performance at all listening levels. You'll hear the same clear musical nuances whether you turn the volume up or keep it soft. You'll also enjoy the full depth and range of every vocal or instrument on MP3s, CD-R/RWs, and conventional CDs. Listen to CDs created on your computer and take advantage of the digital MP3 format for hours of uninterrupted Wave music system quality sound. The Wave music system was engineered to be delightfully easy to use. There are no visible buttons. Instead, the entire system is completely and conveniently controlled by a credit card-sized remote control. And setup couldn't be easier. The CD player, digital AM/FM tuner, amplifiers and speakers are all built-in so you can enjoy quality sound right out of the box. The large, bright display panel is easy to read and understand, prominently displaying the artist, title and album names of your suitably encoded MP3 CDs. It's also easy to enjoy the system's full, rich sound with your TV, VCR, DVD player, or computer, thanks to an auxiliary input jack. And if you want to keep the music to yourself, you can simply plug your headphones into the headphone jack. The Wave music system may look familiar, but it takes the original award-winning design of the Wave radio/CD to new levels. With its absence of buttons and a convenient slot-loaded CD player, the slim, sleek profile shines through to complement just about any room. Its lighted buttons are ideal for low-light conditions and its larger, rounded design is comfortable to hold.
Orchestra in the living roomNovember 22, 2008 I recently bought my second Bose system. The sound quality is outstanding. I can hear things in the music that never came across before. I just finished listening to Tchaikovsky's Fifth and it was like having the Cleveland Orchestra right there in the room. Frankly, I'm very surprised at the negative reviews here, but one thing I noted is that most seem to come from people who are unhappy about things other than the sound or serious audiophiles who are probably looking for a much more sophisticated system.
I didn't buy the Bose for aesthetics or as a bedside clock radio--I bought it for the sound and that is incredible. There are not many radio stations in my area so I have more pre-sets than I need and listen mostly to CDs, most of which are classical recordings where the subtleties of the music and the various performances are easily discernable and can be appreciated with the Bose.
I've had the new system for a year and the original one for at least six years. I've had zero problems with either of them. I do like the buttons on the older model, but where the new one sits (in a bookcase--the sound is still outstanding) I couldn't get to them anyway, so am quite content using the remote(s)--I have three so I can mute it when I pick up the phone, or manage it from the kitchen or den.
I find the clock reliable and the controls easy to use when power outage requires adjustment or Daylight Savings turns on or off, but it isn't my main timepiece. I have automatic wall clocks for that.
The Bose Wave system is so much better than a normal radio/CD player, I was no longer content with anything else after getting the first one and ultimately got the second unit plus CD changer so as to have on-going music when entertaining, or a choice of things already loaded for my own benefit. Whether played loud or soft the sound quality is all I could ask for. I think it's well worth the investment.
don't buy itNovember 22, 2008 Don't buy it. I am still making monthly payments on this $500 unit and after 9 months the CD player broke so that now I see "READING DISC" and then "NOT PLAYABLE" or "DISC NOT PLAYABLE" or something to that effect. I called BOSE and instead of sending a new unit to replace it, they want me to send it in, pay the postage, and wait three weeks for the turnaround time, despite acknowledging that it is under warranty. Who knows what will happen during its trip to the shop and back again? I heard that BOSE was good but I cannot recommend this experience to anyone else. Curious, I asked the individual on the phone where my unit was made. He said "South Carolina". Another fine testimonial for the American worker.
Bose Wave Music SystemNovember 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading all the negative comments posted about the Bose Wave Music System, I almost cancelled my order. Then I reminded myself that they do have a free 30 day trial. So I went ahead and kept my order. It arrived the other night. I plugged it in, fearing it would have all sorts of problems or sound absolutely terrible (the topic of many of those negative comments). I am so glad the item sent to my home is defective free! It sounds great. I love that it's compact. The CD's come out when I press eject. I have no problems with it not having buttons on the player. The AM/FM reception was fine. The remote is not so tiny that I can't press the buttons. It's not so big that it's an eye sore. I have no regrets. It was a good buy. I'm glad I didn't cancel my order!
Better than Cambridge SoundworksNovember 12, 2008 I have to admit I hated paying so much for a radio/cd player but it was worth every penny. I didn't buy it for the name because I originally purchased the Cambridge Soundworks I765 hoping it would be just as good as the Bose...but it was not. The sound was good but it was defective, the display background light was super bright and it was lacking quality as it was made in China. The Bose is made in Mexico and has a much better sound, excellent quality and very easy to use. Plus the display background light is really dim and programmable. Hands down, Bose is the best. You do get what you pay for.
Does what it's supposed to do. Not for all types of music though.November 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using Bose equipment since 1995. I won't say Bose is necessarily better than anything else out there but if you listen to a Bose system and it fits your needs, then who's to tell you not to buy it.
Regarding this Wave Radio/CD, I purchased it from Bose[...] and they gave me a free Bose glass table stand. Always go to Bose[...] because they usually throw in something with the Wave units. Either a stand, or an upgraded remote.
As far as sound quality is concerned, placement is key. If you hide this in a bookshelf, sound quality will suffer, the ideal placement for the unit is in an open space backing up to a wall. The purpose of backing up to the wall is to increase the low end response. Try it and you will hear the difference.
When you listen to the unit at lower to moderate volumes, it sounds good when you're listening to acoustic, classical, or jazz music. If you think you can play rap, R&B, dance, etc. on this, you will be very disappointed as I don't think Bose designed this unit with such a user in mind.
If you remember the old Bose infomercials for the original Wave Radio/CD's from yesteryear, they used to have one line which said "It sounds like a system costing five times as much" and then on your TV you would watch the Wave system morph into a full stereo system. That couldn't be farther from the truth. For three reasons, this unit does not use a tweeter, it does not have a true mid-range driver, and there is no subwoofer or at least an output for one. An acoustic wave guide structure will only take your sound so far. In fact if you raise the volume quite a bit, the sound becomes hollow not deeper.
If you want a nice sleek system to keep by your bed or on your desk at work, and you listen to the radio or the music I outlined above, you'll actually be surprised at this unit. That is what I use it for. $[...] is very pricey and IMO not really worth it, but if you don't mind spending the $500, and you use it within it's limitations, I don't see anything wrong with it and it sounds very good.
Honestly I think this is more of a status symbol. Bose does really well with advertising and when someone sees the Bose Wave Radio, you get a nod of approval.
