Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Sleek & Trim Kindle DX is as thin as most magazines. Just over a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle DX fits perfectly in your hands. Beautiful Large Display Kindle DX's large display is ideal for a broad range of reading material, including graphic-rich books, PDFs, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Kindle DX's display is two and a half times the size of the Kindle display. Whether you're reading the latest bestseller or a financial report, text and images are amazingly sharp on the 9.7" screen. Auto-Rotating Screen By simply turning the device, you can immediately see full-width landscape views of maps, graphs, tables and Web pages. Built-In PDF Reader Unload the loose documents from your briefcase or backpack, and put them all on Kindle DX. From neighborhood newsletters to financial statements to case studies and product manuals--you can take them all with you on Kindle DX. Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go. With Amazon's Whispernet service, you can send your documents directly to your Kindle DX and read them anytime, anywhere. 5-Way Controller Kindle DX has an easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Simple to Use, No Computer Required Kindle DX is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. Long Battery Life - Read for Days Without Recharging With Kindle DX's long battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly.

5 out of 5 stars Kindle DX   March 17, 2010
Sadaila M. Miller (Michigan)
Excellent, It has a long battery life, easy navigation. The books download in seconds and ready to read. I am pleased to see free downloads however I'm not happy about the higher prices being put on books. Some of them high enough you might as well get the paperback for your money. Other than the prices on some of the books I am completely satisfied with my Kindle DX.

4 out of 5 stars More Kindle content please   March 16, 2010

Hi Amazon,

Overall very happy with my KindleDX. Everything works at least as well as advertised.
Delivery was prompt - even in regional Australia. The screen readability is fantastic, in all lighting conditions.
The online book shopping experience is wonderful, which leads to my only criticism.
Almost every new title that has been promoted online by Amazon recently appears NOT to be available for Kindle download.
Does this mean that Kindle owners will be restricted to legacy publications?
Surely new titles should be available in traditional AND KINDLE forms simultaneously, but that appears not currently the case.

5 out of 5 stars Great...but expensive to use by mail.   March 16, 2010

Kindle is great!
Lot of pages in this light and friendly device.
The only problem I found is that you can e-mail documents using whispernet. It costs 1 USD per mail, so it gets expensive if youre using it this way.
Any way, Kindle is a great tool!

3 out of 5 stars After Using it a Few Hours...   March 15, 2010
Janet Boyer (Pennsylvania)

I decided I didn't like it.

Why? Well, one of the main reasons I bought the Kindle DX was because I like to follow trends in publishing and discover NEW titles. However, the book search (conveniently divvied up according to category) ONLY displays books in BESTSELLING order...a search I NEVER use here on Amazon.com!

I wanted to find books according to release date...this happens to be very important to me (although it probably wouldn't be to most people I guess).

Also, I ordered a subscription to USA Today, but the great format of the newspaper was entirely lost on the Kindle DX. The articles were mostly just lists and it just didn't feel like reading the actual newspaper.

I thought I'd be able to move out of my Luddite tendencies, especially as a reviewer who receives TONS of books for review copies; since publishers are (admirably) going green via services such as Net Galley, providing eBook versions of their titles, I thought the Kindle DX would not only free up my husband from building more bookcases, but also help reduce my carbon footprint.

Yes, the screen on the Kindle DX is amazing--it's truly like looking at a "real" book page. Yes, the design is slick and the unit is thin. Yes, it's easy to use.

But I was just so disappointed! Within a few hours of using it, I decided to return it.

If the LED screen wouldn't be an issue, I'd consider getting an iPad (which is about the same price). However, for me, I'll just continue to read and review books the old-fashioned way.

I didn't realize how the sensual experience of reading mattered so much to me until I held and used the Kindle DX...
