4 out of 5 stars The G5 Imac is very nice   July 7, 2007
I was very lucky getting my G5 Imac so cheap. Having cash in hand is so important. This is so versitle and very fast. The Super drive is dual layer
and the display is so clean. Make sure you get the 2 gigs for the memory. This unit needs all it can get.

3 out of 5 stars Ejection problem   July 22, 2006

1 of Apple iMac G5 Desktop with 20" M9845LL/A (2.0
GHz PowerPC G5,
512 MB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive)
The problem is that the disk has a hard time being
ejected. My understanding was that this iMac was
refurbish and was not aware that I was going have it
repaired right away. I just spent Grand Total of
$1,114.98. I will buy the applecare coverage for this
Mac. Too the repair shop for a week or two not having
my Mac. This does not make me happy.
I bought two year service plan from you and I still have not seem it. What is going on?

5 out of 5 stars Tremendous capability for the price.   June 10, 2006

Yes if you can get this version of the iMac for a price like they are offering these days you will get a lot for your money.
I owned this computer and paid twice as much and was completely happy with my experience.
The number of included applications will blow you away if you are coming from the PC environment. There is no comparison to PC especially when you can activate Excel and Quickbooks with 2 clicks on this computer.
You also get Safari and Explorer and the ability to burn your digital files to DVD or easily archive them. That brings up another incredible feature of this Mac, the 250 gig hard drive. Don't go with less even if you are going to use an external drive. Not with the pace of today's new application offerings and security and other updates.
For almost anyone this computer will be an upgrade! Another thing is that the newer Intel Macs still are not running Photoshop or Elements natively so if photography is one of your hobbies this is an excellent choice.
Upgrade the memory to 1 gig is highly recomended. It is an easy do it yourself install too. Take you less than 5 minutes and 1 screwdriver. Most of that 5 will be spent loosening and tightening screws since the memory just pops in place. If you do just look on the installed manual and it covers this and everything else you need.
Yes this is last years Mac but still a highly contemporary tool in all respects.
Good luck!

WOW - what can I say - I own 3 MACs now - this beauty is a work of art and technology. 20" stunning display, silent, powerful, DVD Superdrive, compact and wireless - all you need is the power cord plugged in and THATS IT - I am so glad I got mine before the INTEL CHIPSET - a true APPLE this is!! - Get one at these prices it's a FANTASTIC DEAL!!!

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy until they fix iChat   April 12, 2006
5 out of 13 found this review helpful

The computer is a great idea (well designed all in one, etc), but iChat software is defective as you receive it (and Apple has not yet responding to large #s of user complaints and fixed it). Apple's claims that it is quick and easy to videoconference with your friends/family, etc with these iMacs and iChat are extremely misleading. They should say they are easy to videoconference after you spend dozens of hours network troubleshooting and then buying new routers at each end.

Go to Apple's customer support pages and read how users, many of them experienced users, some even computer professionals, have difficulty connecting iChat. They expect you to become a router expert, doing port forwarding, port triggering, etc in order to try and get this to work. Users talk of reinstalling their OSes, changing around their networks, etc, and not getting iChat to work on these machines to videoconference. I finally got mine to work by replacing routers at both ends, to a router that was "iChat friendly". Do not buy this product to videoconference until Apple fixes iChats deficiencies.

Sadly, the iChat fiasco is hurting Apple's otherwise excellent reputation, which is unfair to the rest of Apple outside of the iChat programmers.

Otherwise the computer works well on word processing, surfing net, etc. If you have no interest in videoconferencing, they you might like this computer. Since I specifically bought 2 of these for videoconferencing, I give them a 1 star.
