Well thought out, well made bagAugust 29, 2010 Alex Miner This is a spacious and well made bag for a larger laptop. It was several storage pockets and a restraint system to hold the computer snugly during transport. It unzips on three sides, so it is easy to get the laptop in and out. I love it.
Somewhat disappointedAugust 26, 2010 Tai H. Truong(Los Angeles, CA) Maybe I had too high of an expectation for this bag but I must say, it's not the most comfortable bag to lug around. The shoulder strap padding doesn't really add much comfort or relief of pressure from the weight of the bag. Perhaps I am using it the wrong way? In any case, the name of the bag says "Slimline" laptop case. They weren't kidding. It's slimmer than what the picture depicts. That picture makes the bag seem bigger than it really is.
I personally use it to put my 12.1" laptop, the laptop charger, and an extension cord. It fits into the main compartment with some extra space left. There's a smaller compartment just outside that could fit slim items like folders, CD/DVD's, some USB flash drives, pens, and other small and relatively flat items. I squeezed a fat 1000+ page computer textbook in there with nothing else inside. Sure, that compartment isn't meant to put textbooks or the like but I had no where else to put it. There's another side pocket on the opposite side without zippers. You can potentially put some more flat folders and files there as well but I use to put my reading books in there. I could squeeze in 3 or 4 average sized paperback novels without it bulging too much from the side. It does have one of those sticky ends where one square is a fuzz and the other square is that pointy end to tape it shut. I don't know what you call those things but there's that to "close" the opening since there's no zipper on that side.
It does barely fit a 17.3" laptop with charger and extension cord. But once that's in there, you really can't fit much else in the other compartments except small and flat things no more than a 1/4 inch thick. There is a handle, in case your shoulder is aching too much from the weight, that you can hold onto. That feels sturdy enough. In fact, you might be better off using the handle instead of the shoulder strap to lug things around. It's terribly uncomfortable. I tried taking out my textbook and keeping only my laptop, charger, and extension cord with absolutely nothing else inside and this thing is still unusually uncomfortable to lug around on my shoulder. Adjusting the shoulder strap a bit higher doesn't really help much. Whether the bag was strapped higher or lower on my back didn't seem to make much of a difference in terms of comfort.
I'd suggest getting a laptop backpack instead of this. At least then you know that the weight distribution would be evenly spread out across both your shoulders instead of on just one shoulder. If you do end up getting this bag, keep it light; otherwise, it won't be a pleasant experience lugging this thing around.
